I “scored” finding the indie-pop band, The Score, on Spotify a month ago. Eddie Anthony (vocals and guitar) and Edan Dover (keys/production) form the duo and have come a long way. Anthony and Dover met a song writing session in New York City a few years ago. Anthony said, “Before we wanted to be artists, we dreamed of writing and producing songs for other big pop artists.” The two never planned on performing songs on a big stage. Before hitting the big stages they played in small clubs in the Lower East Side of New York. For example, The Score played at the Rockwood Music Hall and Arlene’s Grocery.
Edan and Anthony moved out of New York City to Los Angeles. Edan said, “We wrote, “Oh My Love,” the song that would later open doors and help us get a record deal.”
For those who love Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, you probably heard their song, “Oh My Love,” featured in their movie, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. The Score’s EP, Where Do You Run, was released in 2015 and features four songs. The Score also did an awesome cover of “White Iverson” by Post Malone and in 2016 they released their single, “On and On.” The two have already opened up for Andy Grammer and Stevie Wonder and will be coming out with their new EP this summer! I was able to talk with Eddie for a little to learn more about his relationship with Edan, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and there headline show they did in Los Angeles and New York City!
Do you think you both learn from each other?
We come from two totally different musical backgrounds which I think definitely helps us balance each other out. Edan comes from jazz world and studied music in college, were as I grew up on classic rock and got into the “scene bands” in high school. I think today that really helps us when it comes to making music because pop music doesn’t have rules and we can pull from our both our backgrounds – Eddie Anthony
Your song, “Oh My Love,” which is also one of my favorite songs by you, was featured on, Alvin And The Chipmunks. What was it like seeing/hearing your song being featured on a film?
It was kind of amazing having people on Twitter saying they heard the song in the movie. I have three little cousins who are under five who are obsessed with those movies. I that was funny hearing them sing the song back to me because of the movie. – Eddie Anthony
You both had two headline shows in June, one in Los Angeles and one in New York City. I’m sure you were extremely excited for it! What did you do in order to prepare for the show?
Ya we we’re super excited! We played the Bottlerock music festival in Napa which was the most surreal experience of our careers this far. We played on the main stage in front of thousands of people right before Andy Grammer and then Stevie Wonder closed out the night on that very same stage. We also just played our first LA headline show and it was packed and just awesome to see people here really respond well to the music we’re creating. – Eddie Anthony
This summer what will you and Edan be doing? Working on new music? Planning more shows?
We’re always working on new music but yes, we have a brand new EP coming out mid/late summer that we’ve worked really hard on and that we can’t wait to share. We’ve been writing and recording when we’re not traveling for the past nine to ten months. We’re excited to get new music out there to our fans and to get the opportunity to gain new ones. We’ll be playing more shows this summer as well and also writing more new music. – Eddie Anthony
