One of my favorite alternative-country/indie-folk band’s, Bear’s Den, released a new album, Red Earth & Pouring Rain, in July.
The Wall Street Journal and Clash said Red Earth & Pouring Rain is, “A mature, creative second album…this London-based band have carefully crafted a second album which showcases a euphoric step forward and poignant growth in their musicality…Davie’s attention to detail paired with his ability to make you feel involved in these heart-wrenching situations is second to none.”
The band members were originally, Joey Haynes, Andrew Davie, and Kev Jones. In 2014, the band released their debut album, Islands. Towards the end of 2014, their album, Islands, was in the U.K’s Top 50 albums! In the beginning of 2015, their track on their album, Islands, “Above the Clouds of Pompeii,”was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award in 2015. I discovered Bear’s Den actually when to I listened to “Above the Clouds of Pompeii” on Spotify.
Bear’s Den began their tour in the United States, Europe, and the U.K. The band really found who they were when they made a documentary about their tour called, Austin to Boston.
This year, Haynes announced that he would be leaving Bear’s Den because he wanted to spend more time with his family. Although people were upset, this didn’t stop Davie and Jones to stop playing and composing more music. Bear’s Den recorded, while working with their producer, Ian Grimble, again on their new album at Rockfield Studio in Wales. When the album was finished and released, Bear’s Den decided to go on tour again. However, in order to go on tour the band needed more members to play their music:
- Andrew Davie: Lead Vocals and Guitar
- Marcus Hamblett: Synths
- Kev Jones: Multi-instrumentalist (Bass and Lead Guitar)
- Jools Owen: Brass/Drums
Davie explained how most of the band members were used to playing acoustic instruments. However, you can definitely hear more electric instruments in their new album/song. Davie said, “With electric instruments, we can create more of an atmosphere and just stay in that moment, which is great. The way we write songs hasn’t really changed at all, the songs are just wearing different clothes.”
I’ve been listening to the album non-stop and I can hear all the different instruments and how it is a little bit different from the music they usually play. The band is still on tour but as you can see almost every show is sold out! Keep an eye out to see if tickets do become available or buy some on VividSeats.com or Aceticket.com
